What is a Pocophone?
If you look into recent smartphones often, you may notice a lot of names coming up in the last years, and great smartphones being released by Xiaomi, and also Poco, and they are usually sold by different stores. So what is the difference between Xiaomi and Poco?
Xiaomi is a multinational Chinese company focused on electronics founded in April 2010 with a big spark of popularity in recent years, getting its fame due to good smartphones being sold for accessible prices to consumers worldwide, although as an electronics company, Xiaomi also invests in mobile apps, laptops and a big family of different products.
Poco, or Pocophone, is a subsidiary of Xiaomi that started as a mid-range line under Xiaomi's brand, and it evolved to become its brand as the Pocophone was well received by smartphone enthusiasts. Being a subsidiary is great for a line of smartphones, not knowing how they particularly do things, but Poco's line has evolved exceptionally recently and it keeps gaining popularity.
Poco's smartphones are considered to be a cheaper mid-range alternative to Xiaomi, they keep Xiaomi's System-on-a-Chip, which keeps on evolving, making them a unique line with competitive prices.
In short terms, a system-on-a-chip (SoC) is a chip that exists in mobile devices and they work as a complete computer, your usual desktop computer will have its processor on your motherboard, then you have your graphics card plugged on it and so on, your mobile phone has all that on that single chip, and as it may look, it is a very important component of your mobile device.
Is Poco better than Xiaomi?
When talking about smartphones on Xiaomi's line, you usually will have some aspects where Poco will shine and others where it won't. An important thing to keep in mind is that price ranges usually can be different based on your region, so sometimes a phone will be giving more for what you're paying, while another will have a higher price than expected.
Poco is a good mid-range competition to Xiaomi, so you can expect its devices to be aggressive towards the Redmi Note line, more than often they are superior in several aspects, but that still depends on the model, and as with every smartphone comparison, needs to be analyzed with your needs.
If you need a budget smartphone for gaming or a solid performance all around, Poco will provide you a good mid-range line that is always worth having the eyes on when considering a new purchase.
Is Xiaomi better than Poco?
Considering the mid-range lines, we should expect more for Poco in this section, but Xiaomi isn't that behind and its mid-range lines are still a good option, users opinions often share a peculiar advantage on Xiaomi for its camera quality, however, this can be an observation not very well-proven, so take those reviews with a grain of salt unless you are given real pictures using the phones!
Nonetheless, regions can surprisingly vary the price of smartphones, you can have Xiaomi phones being way cheaper than Poco's alternatives(and vice versa), so compare the specifications and the price before making a purchase, instead of just taking a look at the Poco line when considering a mid-range smartphone.
Should I buy a Poco phone?
Poco is a well-established subsidiary of Xiaomi, not a shady competitor, if you own a Xiaomi device you definitely can give Poco a shot, its excellent mid-range design and performance will keep the line relevant and evolving for years to come.
Price competition is awesome to the end consumer, even if one company is a subsidiary of another, it creates more possibilities for the buyers and devices for all kinds of users.
If you're a user who cares about the camera of your phone, it's recommended to check reviews and pictures taken with that camera, this is not limited to Poco, but it's something you want to be sure about as camera reviews keep getting contradictory. The website GSM Arena is a good way to compare camera quality between phones and something to consider.
When looking at reviews, be sure to look for legit reviews using well-known apps and tools used to benchmark, it is really easy to mess up a review by leaving apps in the background, misconfigurations, and related problems that can make the final result meaningless, but still, those reviews get popular and it can mislead users into fake expectations.
What is the best Poco to buy?
This is totally up to your needs, most phones will have a nice camera and a strong battery, this is something that the Poco line is very good at.
